Consider this panel if

Why it matters

Measures methylmalonic acid (MMA), a functional marker of vitamin B12 status. It shows whether B12 is actually doing its job inside your cells, not just how much is circulating in your blood.

Standard B12 tests measure how much is in your blood, including the portion your cells can't use. MMA measures the effect instead: when cells run short, methylmalonic acid builds up. It can flag a shortfall while a standard B12 result still reads normal, which matters because nerve symptoms can appear early and prolonged deficiency can cause lasting damage.
